Terms of Use

Somva is a dream journal. These terms describe what it does and, just as importantly, what it does not claim to do.

What Somva is

Somva records dreams and analyses them. The analysis has two layers, kept visibly apart on every entry, plus a short reading that draws them together:

• Category coding. An automatic approximation of the Hall/Van de Castle system, the standard method used in dream research. It is an approximation done by word matching on the device, not the manual coding a trained coder performs. It will miss things and it will occasionally count something that is not there.
• Dream-book readings. Tradition, and named as such: every reading carries its source and year — Miller 1901, Artemidorus (2nd century), Freud 1900. They are not research, not diagnosis and not prediction, and none of them is given a date or a deadline.
• A reading of the night. The two layers above are drawn together into a few sentences: which image the night turned on, what happened in it, and one thing to notice. It is written in the voice of the dream books and it is bound by the same limits as they are — see below.

What Somva is not

Somva is not a medical or psychological service. It does not diagnose, treat or assess any condition, and nothing in it should be used in place of talking to a professional. It makes no predictions about your future and no promises about your health, relationships or finances.

The comparison with published norms is a statistical comparison with data from Hall and Van de Castle's 1966 normative samples. It describes how your recorded dreams differ numerically from those samples. It does not describe you.

Your content

Your dreams are yours. They stay on your device (see Privacy); we never receive them and therefore claim no rights over them, and cannot restore them if you delete them or lose the device.

Subscription

Recording dreams and reading each individual dream are free, with no limit, and so is logging a night when nothing was remembered. A subscription unlocks the reading of the whole archive: all patterns, how often anything stays and what it depends on, and the comparison with the norms.

Two plans are offered:

• Somva Pro, weekly — auto-renewing subscription, one week per period.
• Somva Pro, yearly — auto-renewing subscription, one year per period.
• Somva Lifetime — a single purchase that does not renew.

The weekly plan starts with fourteen days free. The free period becomes a paid subscription unless it is cancelled at least 24 hours before it ends. The free period is offered once per Apple Account; if it has already been used, the app does not show it.

The price for your country is shown in the app before you buy, and the App Store confirms it again before charging. Prices differ by territory, so they are not listed here.

Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. You can cancel at any time in your App Store account settings; cancelling takes effect at the end of the current period. Payment is charged to your Apple Account. A one-time purchase, where offered, does not renew.

Availability

Somva is provided as is. It is a small app maintained by one person, and it may contain errors. If something is wrong, write and it will be looked at.
